Hazleton General Hospital
Hazleton General Hospital has been serving the community since 1891. It’s undergone many changes in its 120-year history and continues today to serve the best interests of the Greater Hazleton area and its surrounding communities.
Hazleton General Hospital and St. Joseph Medical Center merged in December 2006 in an effort to consolidate duplicated services and provide the community with unmatched quality in healthcare services. Having two healthcare facilities operating within blocks of each other was neither economical nor feasible, especially with the rising cost of healthcare. While the merging of the two organizations marked the end of an era in healthcare, it provided an opportunity to offer the community the highest quality healthcare and the latest available technology without duplicating services, equipment, or costs.
The 150-bed facility provides a variety of inpatient and outpatient services including emergency and ICU care, diagnostic and therapeutic medical services, an inpatient rehabilitation unit and a secure family birthing center, as well as radiology, surgical endoscopy, and laboratory services to name just a few.
While Hazleton General Hospital is considered a community hospital, there is nothing small about the healthcare services it provides to more than 100,000 people in a large tri-county area. During its long-standing history, the hospital has grown to meet the medical needs of its ever growing and diverse community through state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and facility investments, community and healthcare partnerships, educational programs, health fairs and screenings, volunteer work, charity initiatives, and much more.
Today, Hazleton General is an award-winning hospital in patient safety, bariatrics, as well as stroke and cardiac care.
